Pogačar’s Tour de France victory sets the stage for the 2025 UCI Road World Championships in Rwanda

Slovenian cycling star and reigning world champion Tadej Pogačar recently won the 2025 Tour de France, adding yet another major title to his already impressive career. His triumph comes just weeks before he is expected to compete in the UCI Road World Championships, which will be hosted for the first time on African soil, in Rwanda.

Pogačar’s journey to winning his fourth title on July 27 was nothing short of dominant. From gruelling mountain stages to high-speed sprints, he stayed in control, proving once again why he remains at the top of world cycling. With the yellow jersey now in hand, his focus will soon shift to Rwanda, where the global cycling community is preparing for a championship like no other.

This year’s edition of the UCI Road World Championships, scheduled to run from September 21 to 28, is historic. It marks the first time in the event’s 130-year history that it will take place in Africa. For Rwanda, a rising force in the cycling world, it’s a proud moment and a chance to welcome the sport’s biggest names to the heart of the continent.

Preparations are already in full swing. Kigali’s roads are being refined to meet international standards, local communities are gearing up to cheer on their favourite riders, and the championship’s official mascot, a proud gorilla symbolising Rwanda’s rich natural heritage, is making appearances across the city.

As the cycling world sets its sights on Rwanda, one big question remains: Can Pogačar defend his world title in Kigali?
