Kigali was alive with excitement on Saturday, September 20, as families, friends, and cycling enthusiasts gathered for the Kigali 2025 Social Ride, a lively prelude to the 2025 UCI Road World Championships.
Taking place just one day before the races officially begin, the event marked a celebratory moment in the build-up to Kigali becoming the first African city to host the championships in the competition’s 103-year history.
From 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., more than 753 riders representing 46 nationalities pedaled together on a scenic loop of the road race route.
The circuit spanned some of Kigali’s most iconic locations, including the Kigali Convention Centre (KCC), Gishushu, Nyarutarama, Kabuga ka Nyarutarama, Golf Course, Minagri, KABC, Kabindi, Kimichanga Junction, Medheal, and back to KCC.
Participants from all over the world
The diverse line-up included riders from Rwanda, Belgium, Kenya, the USA, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, India, Comoros, Ireland, Colombia, China, Andorra, and Turkey, among others.
This diversity reflected the global spirit of cycling and set the tone for the 98th edition of the UCI Road World Championships, which will welcome athletes from over 100 countries between September 21 and 28.
